The Gwydyr Fishery History
The land and rivers around Betws-y-Coed in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park are owned by the ancient Gwydyr Estate who lease fishing rights to the various bodies for the renowned Salmon and Sea Trout fishing on their estae.
The Gwydyr Fishery has been run by the proprietors of the Gwydyr Hotel for over 150 years until a change in ownwership has required the fishery to be managed by the Betws-y-Coed Angling Club.
The Gwydyr comprises 2 beats on the River XConwy. A lower beat of 2.0 miles from the confluence of the Llugwy and Conwy Rivers , and an upper beat of 1.0 miles from above the Waterloo Bridge to the confluence of the Conwy with Afon Lledr. It also includes 2 milkes of water on the lower reaches of the Afon Lledr.
Salmon and Sea Trout are caught on these waters.
Season tickets are for up to 20 rods through th Club Secretary and Day Tickets are available.
The fishery endeavours to promote Fly Fishing , but other methods such as Bait Spinning and Shrimp are allowed under certain conditions.
